Ahuriri Regional Park Masterplan
Hawkes Bay
Te Wai Ora, Te Taiao Ora – Healthy Water, Thriving Nature. Restoring water, revitalising biodiversity, and building resilience.
Boffa Miskell was engaged to develop a masterplan for the site’s transformation into a regional park. A key priority of the plan was the restoration and creation of native forest, shrubland, and wetland ecosystems to support future mahinga kai opportunities. This ecological regeneration was to be integrated around an 85-hectare constructed stormwater treatment wetland, designed to filter contaminants from the adjacent Purimu Drain before its discharge into the estuary.
Napier City Council, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, and Mana Ahuriri Trust have partnered to deliver the Ahuriri Regional Park project, an initiative focused on restoring the health, wellbeing, and mana of Te Whanganui-ā-Orotū (Ahuriri Estuary).
