Muka Park

Creating a neighbourhood gathering space
When Auckland Council asked this Ōrewa community what they needed, they replied ‘build us a space to play with our children and neighbours’.
Boffa Miskell developed ‘build your own park’ consultation boards for a community day with Auckland Council, then designed an all-ages family park to gather, play, walk the dog, and have a casual picnic with the neighbours.
Ngāti Manuhiri shared their cultural narrative and gifted the Muka Park name. Their stories were woven into a native forest design with dry stream bed, laser-cut native bird silhouettes, lush planting and swooping storm petrels above a challenging bespoke rope and timber climbing forest.
